I updated my animated logo: Metro Tool Rental. I changed a few things:

How the text changes after coming “out” of the lines
The direction of the second saw blade pass
The way the complete logo stops
and how the blade continously turns then fades out

Class: How to turn off Snap Shot previews

Hey guys, I found the way to turn off the Snap Shot previews. When you are logged in to the wordpress webpage, look for Appearance on the column on the left, click it then choose Extras, and uncheck the first checkbox that says: Enable Snap Shots on this blog. That will take effect on the current page and the previous blog entries.

I loved to watch this show now and when I was growing up. The show ran from 1976 to 1984 with different cast members and different opening sequences. This show gave me the desire to go to and live in California. Eventually, I did and there were a lot of similiarities between the show and my experiences there, although I never had two female roommates.

I like the original opening sequence with Suzanne Somers. Having her in a bikini didn’t hurt either. The clip I found on retrojunk was ONE of the opening sequences to the show. Here is the link. The sequence doesn’t have a lot of special effects (NONE) and the music is funky seventies music. I did notice one thing that many people may not have noticed: In the very beginning, when the title is shown, in the lower left corner you see a man on skates lean toward and kiss a woman. I bet they didn’t know they were being filmed. I thought it was an interesting element. You see the great physical comedy of the late John Ritter as he looks back towards a woman in shorts and falls off his bike into the sand.

The show had different opening sequences and would change them based on the cast of actors. I also liked the original sequences when Suzanne Somers was on the show. They changed the opening sequence when she left, Don Knotts and Priscilla Barnes came on. It was shot at the Los Angeles Zoo and it just wasn’t the same. I was able to find what I think is the original opening clip at youtube.

It is one of my favorites TV series of all time.

Assign: Wk4 Assign 2 – Sin City Opening Sequence

Sin City has a great opening sequence. The buildings morphing into the opening title is outstanding. Great eerie music with attention to detail with the sound effects. When the movie changes to stills during the introduction of the cast, pay close attention to the panning of the music. That was very impressive to me. I had to look at it again to realize that the text is semi-transparent and you can see the 2D drawings through it. Also, when a male character is introduced a male drawing is shown and vice versa for the ladies. The movie is based off graphic novels by Frank Miller and the opening sequence reflects that. Because we are not having class tonight I’ll go ahead and show the logos I created with Flash. I chose the name ‘Metro Tool Rental’. It is a tool rental business.

Logo 1 – A shield with a saw blade running through it.
Logo 2 – A air gun with text around a hex nut. The air gun button, the grey inner part of the nut, and the hex shape on the outside are all separate elements that can be animated.
Logo 3 – An M silouletted by a saw blade. This would be the easiest to animate. It has a complete saw blade that could be rotated into position simulating sawing coming up from the bottom.

Assign: Opening titles: Psycho

Psycho starts as many Alfred Hitchcock’s movies start; with a dramatic score. The music starts before the titles and graphics move in. It is an interesting mix of bars coming in from different directions with text appearing between. Some of the credits split and move off in different directions providing a transition to the next credit. I was unable to tell what kind of transition there was from credits to the start of the movie.

No other video is shown and there is no voice over or sound effects, only music.
